Rudy Update

Rudy was seen by our Holistic mobile Vet on Monday where he received acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments. Dr. Berschnider's prognosis was optimistic. Yes, he did have some compressed discs, but they weren't terribly bad. She was able to gently ease his spine back into alignment. I swear, I saw it happened on Rudy's face! She gave me several holistic medications - Disc Composition, Turmeel (for inflammation and pain) and Pain Plus (just in case). Rudy was on the Turmeel for several days and will be on the disc comp. for the rest of his life. I am happy to report that Rudy's sparkle is back. He still waits at the stairs for help, but he is back to his old, happy-go-lucky self! Dr. B showed me how to massage his spine and some gentle realignment techniques. Rudy looks forward to his daily massage.

On another note, I went to an knee specialist on Monday. I have had 5 surgeries between both knees and had been told by my local surgeon the only option left would be knee replacements. My husband, who is quite experienced in knee replacements (he has had 3 replacements on the same knee!), insisted I go to his surgeon in Nashville. My results were as good as Rudy's. The surgeon injected each knee with steriods and will be scheduling me for a series of Syn-Vis injections . The hope is this will stave off the replacement surgery for several years. While I am not particularly thrilled at the thought of three more injections in each knee, I want to put off the replacements as long as I can. Getting old is not for sissies!

Stay tuned for more puppy pictures soon!

Lyberty's Sherman Tank

Today's Featured Pup is Lyberty's Sherman Tank - Tank is aptly named as he is the Tank of the litter. He is a brindle pointed Black and White boy. Tank loves to hide in little niches and spring out at the other puppies when they least expect it. To say that Tank loves to play is an understatement! He is very vocal and "talks" to you when you hold him. He has lots of puppy love to share and is looking for his forever home.

Lyberty's Memphis Belle

Today's featured Puppy is Lyberty's Memphis Belle. Belle is a sweet but bossy little girl. It's a good thing she has a southern name as she is the Mouth of the South. Belle is very vocal and loves to howl! She, like her brother Doolittle (yesterday's featured pup) is very brave and she loves to run. Belle is also looking for her forever pet home.

Lyberty's Jimmy Doolittle

We have several puppies looking for their forever pet homes. I will be featuring each puppy in a separate blog.
First up is Lyberty's Jimmy Doolittle. Doo is named after a WWII fighter pilot. This pilot had amazing courage and was up for any challenge. That's our Doo. He is the first to investigate anything new and has lots of bravado. He also has tons of puppy kisses to share.

Puppy Party Pictures - 8 1/2 weeks

Ahhh - I love puppy parties - good friends, puppies, food and lots of laughter. A big thank you to Jeri, Sue, Heidi and Leslie for driving over to help me evaluate the babies. We have decided to keep Rosie and Winston for now. A big thanks to Heidi for acting as the photographer! Only one problem, the computer operator (that would be me) screwed up in downloading the pictures and deleted Winston, Doolittle and Norm. Rick and I will redo these puppies later today and post them this afternoon. So here they are......

Advice

Rudy is slowly slipping back down hill. He is walking (although somewhat stilted), but the gleam in his eye just isn't there anymore. He is also have some bladder control issues while he is asleep. I know several of you have been through this and I sure could use your advice on how to make him as comfortable as possible.

On a happier note, Sue Stockslager, Jeri Lami, Leslie Reed and Heidi Spradling are coming to help me evaluate the puppies. We will be taking lots of pictures - so stay tuned.....

Rudy update

Rudy continues to show improvement thanks to the "miracle drugs". Eight years ago Rudy, a honest to goodness red merle, came to our home as a rescue foster. We found a new home for him, but they returned him after a week because he had "GAS"! He has been with us ever since. We are not certain of his age but think he is probably 9 or 10. He has a great spirit, and I even managed to get a HT on him despite knowing absoultely nothing about herding. His herding days are over but we are keeping our fingers crossed that we can get him over the hump.

Rudy's status

The news on Rudy is not good - he has a two compressed discs. We rushed him to the Vet as soon as we saw him having difficulty standing and walking. Thankfully, he is not paralyzed. His rear legs just kept giving out on him. He was given the "miracle" shot and is back on an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer. This morning he is showing some improvement and actually got up and walked a few steps to get a drink. Our Vet is not optimistic that he will make a full recovery and is not recommending surgery at this time. He is on crate rest for now. I am contacting the acupuncture/chiropractic mobile Vet in area to see when she can come see him. She is a miracle worker and we hope that will give him some relief. In any event, Rudy's rough and tumble, run around like an idiot, frapping days are over.
